Apartment no.2 |
Three interior proposals near Canonbury square
This open-plan apartment is situated on the top floor of a building in Canonbury, London. It features an exposed wooden roof structure, large traditional sash windows, and two skylights. With a generous 3.5m ceiling height and an open layout, the space offers excellent potential for various conversion options. Additionally, there is access to a flat roof above the kitchen, which could be developed into a small rooftop garden, further enhancing the apartment’s appeal. To make the most of this flexibility, we present two design approaches that are well-suited to the characteristics of the space.
Here are our two proposals:
A: The Red Boxes
B: Divided apartment: Compact Living

A: THE RED BOXES
69.5m2
These two raised red boxes give a modern feel to a classic home and also bring a new and original functionality to the space. One of them (1) is a space for bed and the other (2) is a workspace. This way the apartment’s surface is left free for the imagination of the user as a large open space. Curtains are provided as a mean for dividing the room for privacy or further adjusting the layout for personal needs. The existing area is 63.5 sqm, the boxes add further 6 sqm. The height of the space is 3.5m at its highest.
In this concept, one apartment is divided to two smaller self-contained units. The programme here is really compact and efficient providing everything needed in a small area. Answering to the common nowadays scenario of obtaining more living units, the concept manages to maximise the open living ares for versatile uses such as dining room, workspace, living room. Both apartments utilise the high ceiling of the space (3.5m) to create a mezzanine, in the studio - for a sleeping area, in the 1-bed apartment - for additional relaxing area or storage space.
